We won the Green Dealer of the Year Award.

Ocean BMW is proud to have won The Motor Trade Industry Green Dealer of the Year Award.

One of Devon and Cornwall's best known family owned motor dealerships has been nationally recognised for their efforts in introducing and implementing a successful environmental policy.

Ocean, responsible for the BMW and MINI franchises in Plymouth, Torbay and Falmouth has recently been awarded The Motor Trader Industry Green Dealer of the Year Award.

The awards are open to all franchised and independent dealers and the Green Dealer of the Year Award category recognises the efforts being made by car retailers to run environmentally friendly sites, promote green motoring or both.

The winner was announced at The Motor Trader Awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London's West End on Wednesday 11th July 2012; in attendance on behalf of Ocean were Louise Nicol Environmental Programme Coordinator, Graham De Val, Group Managing Director, Mervyn Ough, Group Accountant and Naomi Fox General Assistant.

Ocean appointed Louise Nicol as Environmental Programme Coordinator in 2011 and she was responsible for developing Ocean's Environmental policies, it was these policies that ensured Ocean was the only prestige dealer nominated within this category.

Louise is very proud of Ocean's achievements "I am of course delighted to have won it shows how far Ocean have come and how many opportunities we still have. Environmental awareness is a personal passion of mine so it is a delight to be able to incorporate it into my working life. I would like to thank Graham and the team at Ocean for their support."

Ocean achieved a fantastic 16% reduction in their energy costs over the previous 12 months. Amongst the many changes that have taken place, Louise identifies the following as being instrumental in both the nomination and win.

·          New lighting at BMW Plymouth and Body Centre showing a 10% reduction in energy usage.

·          The waste management has become significantly more sustainable with paper, card and electrical waste being collected for recycling.

·          Ocean introduced "energy walkabout's" at BMW Plymouth to monitor out of hours energy usage.

Group Managing Director, Graham De Val commented "BMW are known as industry leaders in environmental technology so it is only fitting that as a company we do all we can to improve sustainability and environmental impact. Louise has put a lot of effort into developing Ocean's policies and I would like to thank her for all her efforts - a well deserved win!"

Louise and the team at Ocean will continue to develop our Environmental policies - why not keep up to date on all the latest news via our Facebook page?
